4th Annual NOVA Battlefield 7s
June 18, 2005

The first MARFU qualifier of the season is the 2005 NOVA Battlefield 7s.

In order to be prepared, we will begin practice on May 17th. That will give us 1 month to get ourselves organized. Notice I said "organized," not fit. This is NOT enough time to get fit, which means that all players are responsible for being at 70% of their total potential by May 17th.

We will get ourselves to 100% during the first month, and 120% by the end of the season. Seriously though, come to the first practice with some good fitness under your belt already.

If you are new to rugby, and want to learn more about our 7s program, contact us. We are always on the lookout for new players, and welcome anyone who can contribute to our club.

ABOUT THE CLUB

A Brief History of N O V A 7 s

Throughout the 90s, NOVA finished in the top-4 at the National Championships in all but 2 of 10 seasons, and managed to finish first in 1996. NOVA has also been to Nationals eleven times. That's 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11!! - more than any other team in the country. That is something to be proud of.

ATTENTION: New Players

Join the "NOVA Sevens" Listserv (bottom of this page) for all the latest information, and stay tuned to this Web site. Also, feel free to add your name to our roster page, if you haven't already done so. It'll help us keep you informed of all the latest things happening with the club. Also, here is a short introduction to the rugby 7s.

What NOVA 7s is About

- Win or lose, NOVA will be the fittest team in the Nation.

- Win the NOVA Battlefield 7s tournament at home, and continue to focus on fitness throughout the summer. Also, we would like to build up our II and III sides as the summer progresses.

- NOVA and the Lost & Found gentlemen are expected to make nice with the ladies again this year at Cape Fear. Last year will be hard to beat, as our fine lads were able to befriend the ladies from Hong Kong.

- THE FINAL (and most important) POINT. We're all out to have fun this summer, but NOVA will not lose a single game this summer due to lack of fitness. If a team beats us, it will not be because we did not train hard enough. In that spirit, NOVA will walk off the field every time - win or lose - with heads held high. Nothing...NOTHING...is more important than that.

NOVA 7s - Player Profile

This season we spotlight Mike O'Brien, aka The Irish Iraqi. O'Brien is one of the few NOVA front fivers who is just as comfortable in a NOVA 7s jersey as he is playing 15s. Mike's easy-going style and off-pitch humor will be missed this summer as he spends time in Iraq - presumably with his new family ;)
